Endemic Plants of Belek

Belek, with its rich flora, is a natural wonder, and the biodiversity of the region is quite vast. The forests in the area cover the sand dunes and form the widest plant cover. It is known that the dense Mediterranean pine forests are one of the local species. Additionally, under the thick pine forests, Mediterranean shrubs grow, and as you approach the coast, you will find maquis vegetation. These forests are the richest areas in terms of flowers and fauna. The most beautiful and rich meadows are found here.

The diversity of Belek’s natural environments is based on the richness of its flowers. In Belek, 58 families, 118 species, and 16 subspecies have been identified. The richest flower species are found in the dune vegetation (51 species from 27 families) and the pine forests (51 species from 31 families). In 1995, 40 plant species, previously unmentioned, were discovered in Belek, and a list of 48 exotic species from 28 botanical families was also compiled.

The first studies on the diversity of flora and fauna in the region were conducted in 1995. These studies led to the publication of the book "250 Plant Species and 20 Endemic Plants of Belek," a joint effort between the Mediterranean University’s Biological Diversity Research, Development, and Application Center and the Belek Tourism Investors Association, published in 1999. According to the information in the book, in the Belek Tourism Center, 574 plant species, 29 endemic (found only in Turkey) plant species, and 1 relic endemic species, the Serik Pear (Pyrus serikensis), found only in Belek, have been identified.

Botanical research revealed that the following endemic plants are found in Belek: Sage, Bear’s Ear, Chalba, Cankicegi, Rattleweed, Shepherd's Stick, Mountain Tea, Egnik, Donkey’s Ear, Gokbash, Air Jiva, Red Enik, Small Hyacinth, Liquorice, Purple Carnation, Everlasting Flower, Immortal Herb, Pamphylia Star, Prophet’s Flower, Beach Daisy, Catweed, Smelly Plant, Stone Rose, Wild Pear, Wild Carnation, Wild Onion, and Zingit.

As Belconti Resort Hotel, we are doing excellent work on the production and conservation of the sand lily and Serik pear. During your stay, you will have the opportunity to see many of these plants.
